Abstract

1292789 Quenching cracked gases UBE INDUSTRIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 25111/71 Heading C5E Cracked gases are quenched and freed from carbon and tar by feeding the gases at elevated temperature to the bottom of a vessel containing inorganic particles so as to form a spouted bed, and spraying wax or liquid hydrocarbon into the spouted bed to quench the gases and cause the carbon and tar contained in the gases to adhere to the solid particles. Suitable inorganic particles are mullite, Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 , cement clinker, magnesia clinker, or alumina of diameter 0À1-6 mm. The spouted bed may be maintained at 200-600‹ C. The carbon and tar coated particles may be regenerated by pyrolysis when fluidized with an O 2 -containing gas in a second vessel, cooled and recycled to the first vessel.
