Abstract

1292463 Moulding battery casings JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 13 March 1970 [18 April 1969] 19937/69 Heading B5A A method of moulding battery casings includes the steps of introducing synthetic resin into a mould 11 defining the outer walls and compartment walls of the casing so as to mould these walls, then moving part of the mould 13 and 14 relative to the remainder of the mould so that the mould also defines the base of the casing, and finally introducing further synthetic resin into the mould so as to mould the base of the casing integrally with the walls. The mould 11 comprises a movable die 13 engaged with a base 12, a movable core 14 which is inserted into the die and a stripper plate 18 which disengages the moulded casing from the core 14. An injection device 17, including feed nozzles 15 and a heater manifold 16, are provided to feed the molten resin into the mould 14. The core 14 includes channels which define compartment walls and sludge well walls in the moulded casing.
