Abstract

1,150,106. Injection moulding rubber. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 9 Jan., 1967 [11 Jan., 1966], No. 1152/67. Heading B5A. In a process of injecting a rubber mass into a mould and then vulcanizing it, the rubber mass is fed in a number of streams through a distribution element 21 which is separated from the mould (by springs 28) as soon as the mould is filled. Rubber mass present in the distribution element can be injected into the mould when further articles are being made, thereby obviating waste. The element 21 comprises upper and lower halves (21b), 21a bolted together, the sprue, runners and nozzles of the lower half being shown at 22a, 24a and 23a respectively. Fig. 2 also shows the lower mould half 11 with sprues 17a to receive the nozzles 23a, runners 16a, mould cavities 15a, and shallow vent grooves 19, 20. The mould may be provided with heating elements or passages and the distribution element 21 with cooling passages (none of which are shown).
