Articles are moulded by introducing a molten or curable material into a mould cavity and reducing the volume of the cavity as the material cools to counteract shrinkage. The reduction of the volume of the mould cavity preferably takes place just before the moulding material solidifies. Heads for brushes may be produced in an injection mould, one wall of which contains axially movable pins which can be forced into the moulded material to define holes for the bristles and to reduce the volume of the mould.
