Abstract

1291921 Weapon training BOFORS AB 8 Jan 1970 [10 Jan 1969] 998/70 Heading F3C A system for simulating the firing of a weapon, e.g. a weapon mounted on a movable weapon carrier 1, at a target, e.g. a moving target 2; comprises a radiation transmitter 9 for emitting a narrow beam of optical radiation coupled to the weapon so as to follow the elevation and training movements of the weapon, means for activating the radiation transmitter to emit a short pulse of radiation at a predetermined time interval after a manually initiated signal stimulating the firing of the weapon, and radiation sensitive means 12 on the target for detecting radiation pulses received at the target. The radiation transmitter 9 is provided with a member which is rotatable to train and elevate the beam, releasably lockable in a position in which the beam is parallel to the direction of fire, i.e. parallel to the barrel 4 of the weapon and stabilized in its unlocked state. A computer 11 computes the time of flight of a projectile which would be normally fired from the weapon and the gravity correction angle, a signal, proportional to the angle being fed to a servomotor of the rotatable member after the member has been unlocked in response to the manually initiated signal simulating the firing of the projectile. The servomotor rotates the member through an angle corresponding to the gravity correction angle such that the beam is depressed with respect to the direction of firing of the weapon. The transmitter is then triggered after the computed time of flight. The transmitter comprises a mirror which is connected to the member, the member being stabilized by a pair of gyroscopes (Fig. 2, not shown).
