Abstract

1,115,141. Teaching warfare. PRECITRONIC GESELLSCHAFT FUR FEINMECHANIK UNDELECTRONIC m.b.H. 21 Dec., 1965 [22 Dec., 1964], No. 54230/65. Headings F3C and F3X. In manoeuvres armoured vehicles 1 are provided in their gun barrel 2 with transmitters 3 of a high energy coherent and concentrated light flash. Each vehicle is further provided with photo-electric detectors 5 connected to an amplifier 9 and a detonation and smoke unit 10. When a light flash from one vehicle is received by the detectors 5 of another vehicle (" a hit ") the one vehicle is immobilized and the detonator and smoke unit 10 is actuated. The light may be emitted from a crystal emitter, i.e. a laser (Fig. 2, not shown), the number of light flashes being limited in accordance with the amount of ammunition carried by the vehicle normally. Devices for delaying the light flash from the time at which the gun is fired are provided to compensate for range. Also each vehicle may have a differently coded light flash which produces a correspondingly coded " hit " signal such that the vehicle " firing " a successful " shot " may be ascertained. The light transmitter may be continuous having a shutter operated to give flashes or may be periodic in accordance with the firing of the gun. The detectors are pivotally mounted on the vehicle and possess wide angle lenses and filters such that they are tuned to the light flash frequency only (Fig. 5, not shown). The devices may also be incorporated in remote control planes which are provided with auxiliary means to cause landing when a hit signal is released.
