Abstract

1291716 Snow plough; scraping apparatus A KAHLBACHER 17 Dec 1969 [2 Jan 1969] 61447/69 Headings E1F and E1G In an assembly attachable to a vehicle to form a snow plough or bulldozer, a plough blade 1 is pivotally mounted on a transverse shaft 3 and located in operative position by a spring-biassed overload release catch comprising a pin 7 pressed against a shoulder 30 on an arm 8, the shoulder height being less than the pin diameter so that on overload it rides over the pin. The shaft 3 is mounted on a vehicle either directly or through lifting linkwork 5. The pin 7, which may carry a roller, is supported between a pair of arms 6 fixed to the shaft 3, while the arm 8 is biassed clockwise by an adjustable spring 16 and comprises a drawhook mounted for limited pivotal movement in a stirrup 10 on an arm 9 welded to the blade 1. When the lower edge 23 of the blade 1 strikes an obstacle the shoulder 30 rides over the pin 7 to permit the blade 1 to swing about shaft 3 to clear the obstacle. The vehicle driver can reengage the catch by reversing the vehicle and/or lifting the linkwork 5, reengagement being assisted by a normally loose spring 22. It is stated that (a) the catch may be mounted below the shaft, the drawhook arm 8 being replaced by an arm acting in compression, and (b) the catch may be so arranged that the pin, rather than the shoulder, is displaced on overload.
