Abstract

1291427 Propelling vehicles COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 11 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 23728/70 Heading B7H [Also in Division E1] Haulage apparatus for a machine comprises two hydraulic rams each attachable at one end to the machine and each attached at its other end to means for releasably engaging a track extending along a path of the machine, and control means, for simultaneously actuating. the two rams in an opposite sense with respect to each other, comprising limit switch means sensitive to the extension of the piston-rods of the rams. The apparatus described, for hauling a mining machine along a track on conveyer 8, Fig. 1, conprises rams 36, 38, each having a cylinder 40 connected to the machine, having piston-rods 44, 46 pivotally connected to trackengaging detent means 52, 54, and each being automatically controlled by a switch (not shown) which is sensitive to the degree of extension of the piston-rods. The detent means lie in a conveyer-supported trough-shaped track 28, Fig. 4, which has equi-spaced pairs of aligned slots 34 in its side walls 30. To advance the machine, piston-rod 44 is extended until opposed catches 62 in bore 58 of detent means 52 are extended by spring 64 into a pair of slots 34. Further extension of piston-rod 44 advances the machine, while simultaneously piston-rod 46 is retracted. When piston-rod 44 is fully extended, piston-rod 46 is fully retracted and a pair of spring-loaded catches 62 in detent means 54 are engaged in a pair of slots 34. Extension of rod 46 further advances the machine. At the end of the conveyer one pair of catches 62 in each detent means is retracted, and engaged by pins 68, the other pair of catches in each detent means being released so that the machine may be advanced in the opposite direction. Alternatively, the machine may be hauled by two pairs of hydraulic rams, each pair being pivotally connected to a separate clamping means having a pair of clamping rams whose piston-rods may be extended to grip a rail supported by the conveyer. When one pair of clamping means are actuated to grip the rail, the other pair are actuated to release their grip on the rail. When during clamping the pressure of the hydraulic fluid in the clamping-rams exceeds a set pressure the associated pair of advancing rams are actuated to advance the machine. Simultaneously, the other pair of advancing rams are retracted. The apparatus may include a " fail safe " brake spring-loaded towards the " ON " position.
