Abstract
1291341 Gas purification-hydrogen fluoride CHEMIEANLAGENBAU LEIPZIG VEB 22 April 1970 19263/70 Heading C1A A process for the removal of hydrogen fluoride from the effluent gases from a cement kiln in the manufacture of cement and sulphuric acid from phosphorus gypsum (i.e. fluorineontaminated calcium sulphate derived from wet process phosphoric acid plant) comprises washing the effluent gases in a washing tower with water to which phosphorus gypsum has been added before the water enters the tower. HF is thereby precipitated as calcium fluoride which may then be discharged from the washing tower in the form of a sludge. The wash water also serves to cool the gases, and after removal from the wash tower may be cooled in a trickle cooler fed by water recycling through a cooling tower. After a further addition of phosphorus gypsum, the cooled washing water may be recycled to the wash tower.
