Abstract

1489063 Wet process phosphoric acid; diluting sulphuric acid CANADIAN INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 May 1975 [21 May 1974] 22616/74 Heading ClA Sulphuric acid is reacted with phosphate rock in a process which comprises the steps of (1) diluting concentrated sulphuric acid with pond water from the wet process for producing phosphoric acid to form an acid containing 65 to 75% by weight H 2 SO 4 ; (2) cooling the diluted acid to below 70‹ C.; (3) diluting the cooled acid with pond water from the wet process for producing phosphoric acid to form an acid containing 50 to 65% by weight H 2 SO 4 ; (4) reacting the diluted acid with phosphate rock. Steps (3) and (4) may be carried out concurrently.
