Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently desiliconize Al sludge and recycle it by adding a strongly acidic soln. to the sludge to convert Si contained into gel.
CONSTITUTION: To Al-contg. waste liquor or Al sludge is added a strongly acidic soln. such as sulfuric acid so as to satisfy an H2SO4 to Al molar ratio of 4/2W15/2 and a sulfuric acid concn. of about 200W2,000g/l, and they are well agitated and aged for a fixed time. As a result, impurity Si contained in the waste liquor or the sludge gels, and the soln. gelatinizes as a whole with the passage of time. Water is added to the gelatin to separate the resulting aluminum sulfate and the Si gel. The gel-free aluminum sulfate is then neutralized with an alkali soln. to form aluminum hydroxide usable as starting material for manufacturing alumina, etc.
