Abstract

1291248 Expansion joints J G D ARMOUR 13 Oct 1970 [26 Aug 1969] 42370/69 Heading E1B A sealing strip for joints in roads or pipes comprises an expanded elastomeric plastics core 1 having a textile reinforced plastics covering 7 over the top and at least a substantial portion of the sides. A groove 3 accommodates compression of the core. The upper surface including a groove 2 therein and part of the sides is further covered with a layer of elastomeric plastics. Grooves 8 receive adhesive to secure the cover 7 as to secure the strip to concrete slabs. The strip may be used as shuttering for in situ casting of concrete, when the concrete may fill lower grooves 8. In a first modification the core is formed as a sandwich of two outer less compressible layers and an inner more compressible layer, which is shorter to form the groove 3. In other modifications the reinforced plastics skin is over the lower face and the two sides and keying means are provided for securing it to shuttering.
