Abstract
1428400 Expansion joint nosings F E B (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd 13 Dec 1973 [16 Dec 1972] 58208/72 Headings EIB and EIG In a road or bridge expansion joint wherein spaced concrete slabs 6 have nosings 1 of cold curing mortar bound with a flexible epoxy or other synthetic resin system the curing of the resin-bound mortar is accelerated and thermostatically controlled by one or more embedded heating wires, Fig. 1 (not shown). The heating wires (2) are supported by spacers 3 and may be switched on in sections. Fig. 3 also illustrates a preformed joint seal 10 and an edge-protected waterproof membrane 11 covered by sand-asphalt 12 beneath the surfacing 7. Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrates two mortar nosings (I) being cast in the edge recesses of opposed concrete slabs (6) using an interposed rectangular former (8) and a heat-insulating cover (9). A specific example of a flexible epoxy resin mortar is given.
