Abstract

1291132 Wads IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd 4 Dec 1970 [16 Jan 1970] 2246/70 Heading F3A An over-powder wad for a shotgun cartridge comprises discs 10 and 11, Fig. 2 interconnected by equi-angularly spaced struts 12 whose corresponding faces 15, Fig. 3, e.g., those facing in an anti-clockwise direction, are coplanar with a radial plane of the wad, and whose inner faces 13 are separated by a space 17. The outer faces 14 of the struts taper inwardly to a waist 19, Fig. 2, where a groove 20 is provided along one side of the strut. The opposite side of the strut is optionally convex so as to maintain the thickness of the strut. A pouch 23 for receiving shot may also be provided. The wad is formed of low or high density polyethylene, ethylene vinyl acetates or P.V.C. When a cartridge containing the wad is fired, the struts buckle by virtue of the grooves 20 and thereby cushion the transmission of the thrust to the shot.
