1290854 Valved closures E SANDELANDS 17 Dec 1969 [21 Jan 1969] 3421/69 Heading B8T A valved closure for a wine-making container consists of a closure body, providing a valve seat, and a valve closure member, the closure body being made in one piece of plastics material and having a cylindrical external surface frictionally engaging the inner surface of the aperture of the container and stepped or tapered to seal apertures of different diameter. The valve, which is one way, closes a duct passing through the closure. The valve may be either a flap valve, a ball type valve, a diaphragm valve, or a valve comprising a flexible sleeve round the outside of a tube in which there are holes. The closure may have a flange for surrounding the outside of the neck of the container. The closure body may form a well for a waterbath to enable the emission of gas from the valve to be detected during fermentation.
