Brakes, arrangement and disposition of.-The drive is effected through friction gearing, the propeller shaft being movable to bring a friction disk thereon into engagement with a disk on the crank shaft; movement of the propeller shaft into its non - driving position brings a brake drum into contact with a fixed brakeshoe. An additional movable hand or foot operated brakeshoe may be provided above the brake drum. The propeller shaft L is mounted in bearings M<1>, M<2>, the bearing M<1> being carried by a pivoted arm which can be depressed by a cam shaft against the action of a spring to disengage the friction wheel K. The propeller shaft is provided with a brake drum N for engagement with the fixed movable brake-shoes O, P.
