Abstract
1290441 Electrophotographic element RANK XEROX Ltd 16 Jan 1970 [17 Jan 1969] 2177/70 Heading H1K An electrophotographic element comprises a layer including zinc oxide, a binder and a sensitizing substance of formula wherein R 1 is H, halogen, R or OR; R is an alkyl group containing 1 to 7 C atoms, R 2 and R 3 are each an alkyl group containing 1 to 7 C atoms and R 4 is (CH 2 ) n SO 3 H or (CH 2 ) n CO 2 H, n being an integer from 1 to 7, or of formula wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are as above, R 5 and R 6 are each H, NO 2 , halogen, CN, OR, or CO<SP>2</SP>R, R is an alkyl group containing 1 to 7 C atoms with the proviso that R 5 and R 6 cannot both be hydrogen. In the specific embodiments R 1 =H, CH 3 O, CH 3 and Cl, R 2 and R 3 = CH 3 and C 3 H 7 , n = 2, 3 and 4 and R 5 and/or R 6 = NO 2 , CH 3 O, Br and CO 2 C 2 H 5 . The binder may be a mixture of styrenated alkyd resin and the reaction product of trimethylol propane and tolylene di-isocyanate. A support of paper is provided for the layer. The ingredients for the layer may be mixed in a ball mill and coated on a support in the dark so that the colour of the sensitizer is not removed.
