1290407 Making electrical contacts BOWTHORPE-HELLERMAN Ltd 16 June 1970 29135/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] An electrical socket contact 10, Fig. 1, comprising a forward plug-engaging portion 12 of a relatively resilient material B (e.g. Be-Cu, which may be Au-plated) and a rearward crimping sleeve portion 11 of a relatively malleable material A (e.g. brass), is made in the following way:- (1) Strips of materials A and B are buttwelded together and rolled to form a composite sheet of desired thickness. (2) A rectangular blank (Fig. 10) is cut out of the sheet, a slot 14 being cut as shown in material B, and a tongue 23 being bent up perpendicularly from material A. (3) The blank is rolled up to form a sleeve, adjacent edges of material A being welded together at 29 (Fig. 1) while corresponding edges 27, 28 of material B define a slot 13 which cooperates with slot 14 to form two resilient jaws 15, 16, which are caused to converge forwardly. (4) A part 17 of enlarged diameter is formed at the rear of portion 12. The tongue 23 extends across the bore of portion 11 to limit the distance of insertion of a bared wire end to be crimped therein.
