Abstract
1,007,239. Making Electrical connection. AMP. Inc. Aug. 12, 1964, [Aug. 19, 1963], No. 32793/64. Addition to 956,118. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] A method of making an electrical connection between a conductor and a post in which the conductor is arranged transversely of the post and a connector is slid on to the post to engage the conductor and move it with the connector along the post is substantially the same as that disclosed in the parent Specification, but the claims relate to the use of a stranded conductor, the strands of which are constrained into a bunch by engagement with the connector. Each connector, supplied in strip form and of, for example, brass comprises side walls 32, 34 having dimples 50 which engage the post sides, a convex groove 40 having transverse internal serrations 55 along the web portion 30 which serves to constrain the strands and an inclined tongue 70 to provide a tapered entrance for the wire and conductor insulation supporting tabs 60, 62. Sharp edges adjacent each side of the tongue 70 cut into the insulation to facilitate shearing of the end section thereof during assembly. The tapered forward portion 44 of the walls serve as bumpers which engage and hence advance a previously assembled connector along the post during assembly.
