Heating by electricity.-Heat is transmitted from small intense sources to the air of a room through the medium of a small quantity of liquid vaporized in a closed hollow body at a pressure lower than atmospheric. Fig. 1 shows a symmetrical body a, the liquid b being heated by an electric heater c. A block f closes the heating chamber. In modifications. the area wetted by the small quantity of liquid is increased by the insertion of displacers. Fig. 4 shows a displacer g, the tube a being in this case heated from the outside. The tubes a may be loop- or Y-shaped and may be used singly or combined as shown in Fig. 12 with a common source of heat c. The displacing bodies and the loops may be proportioned or the heaters disposed so as to facilitate circulation of disengaged vapour in one direction only or baffles may be fitted for this purpose.
