Abstract

1288866 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 13 Feb 1970 [14 Feb 1969] 6953/70 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press includes two or more coaxial tubular elements which project into the fluid chamber and act as a stationary die support or a fluid pressure multiplier. The elements are radially spaced to define a gap therebetween which closes when the fluid is pressurized. The stationary plunger, Fig. 2, for a die 7 comprises two tubes 10, 11 defining a gap 13. The gap is sealed at both ends. The die is supported on the outer tube 10 which is longer than the inner tube. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a pressure multiplier 26 comprises two spaced tubes 30, 31 with a gap 32. A differential piston 28 serves to pressurize fluid in the extrusion chamber 40 to extrude a billet 39. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the die 56 is supported on tubes 57, 58 with a gap 59. Alternatively the die itself may be made of a pair of interfitting parts (70), (71), Fig. 5 (not shown), with a gap (73). In all the embodiments the hydrostatic fluid is allowed to act on the outer tubular element to close the gap.
