1288326 Catalysts CHELYABINSKY TRAKTORNY ZAVOD IMENI V I LENINA 18 Aug 1970 39654/70 Heading B1E [Also in Division F1] A combustion chamber coating in a compression ignition engine comprises a layer of molybdenum having superimposed thereon a catalytic layer of alumino-silicate, the aluminosilicate having (by weight) 60-90% of silica and from 40-10% of alumina. The combustion chamber surface is degreased, sand-blasted and coated with a flame-sprayed molybdenum layer which is coated by plasmic spraying with a catalytic alumino-silicate layer consisting of 10-40% aluminium oxide and 60-90% silicon oxide. The amount of carbon deposit can be decreased by cyclic regeneration of the coating surface by raising the temperature of the air charge.
