Abstract

1287903 Electro-photographic reversal development FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 11 Nov 1969 [12 Nov 1968] 55125/69 Heading G2H A photo-conductive layer 2 on a conductive backing 1 is uniformly charged, imagewise exposed to form an electrostatic latent image of which the discharged area does not exceed 10% of the total image area and developed with toner particles charged to the same polarity as that of the latent image; the image being faced by a conductive electrode 3 during development which electrode is insulated from the conductive backing 1 and is not connected to any external potential source. Liquid or solid developer may be used. The photo-conductive element may be immersed in a conductive vat for development or in an insulating vat (17) Fig. 7, (not shown) having an electrode (18) embedded in its floor. Figs. 2, 4, 5, 6 (not shown) depict photo-conductive elements having adhesive tape, insulating resin etc. around their edges to prevent contact between the vat and the conductive backing. A preferred developer is made by mixing Microlith Blue (which comprises a blue pigment and a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate), a varnish (made by heating linseed oil and rosin-modified phenol-formaldehyde resin) and ethyl acetate. This mixture is then ultrasonically dispersed in a liquid comprising kerosene, cyclohexane and linseed oil. After development the image is preferably rinsed with Isopar (R.T.M.)
