Abstract
1287731 Testing the adhesion of coatings CENTRAL ELECTRICITY GENERATING BOARD 26 Sept 1969 [26 June 1968] 30489/68 Heading G1S Apparatus for testing the adhesion of a surface coating to a substrate comprises a member 10 adapted to be attached to the coating by an adhesive, and a screw jack for pulling the member in a direction away from the surface, the screw jack including a shear pin 30 arranged to shear when the pull exceeds a predetermined value. Three legs 20, 21 of the screw jack stand on the coating and support a body 25 through which a threaded rod 31 passes. The surface 11 of the member 10 is adhesively secured to the coating and a head 14 of the member is received in a keyway 37 of a cylinder 26 which is connected to the rod 31 by the shear pin 30. Rotation of a knob 32 raises the member 10 so that if the coating is satisfactorily secured to the substrate the pin 30 shears at the predetermined force. A key 27 engages a keyway 29 to prevent rotation of the member 10.
