Abstract

1287405 Non-aqueous lubricant SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 22 Sept 1969 [13 Nov 1968] 53870/68 Heading C5F A non-aqueous lubricant comprises a mineral lubricating oil and (a) an oil-soluble succinimide dispersant that is the reaction product of a polyamine and succinic acid reactant or a derivative thereof and (b) either one or more C 9+ acyclic aliphatic alcohols in which one or more carbon atoms may be replaced by a sulphur atom, or one or more esters of (1) a C 8+ aliphatic monohydroxy alcohol and (2) a C 2 -C 11 aromatic or saturated aliphatic monocarboxylic acid, the alcohol or ester additives being soluble in the mineral oil. Preferred alcohol and ester additives are thiopentacosanol, n-dodecanol, cetylalcohol, oleyl alcohol, 5- ethyl nonanol C 15 -C 19 alcohols 4-methyl-7- ethylundecanol-2 the salicylate of mixed C 12 - C 15 alcohols. Optional additives include antifoam agents, antioxidants, anticorrosion agents detergents, extreme pressure agents, metal passivators, pour point depressants and thickeners, and lists of suitable compounds are given for each.
