Abstract

1505143 Lubricants SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MATTSCHAPPIJ BV 4 March 1975 [6 March 1974] 8896/75 Heading C5F [Also in Division C3] Lubricating compositions con|ain a minor proportion of an additive prepared by reacting (i) completely hydrogenated polyisoprene having terminal carboxyl groups and of M.W. between 20,000 and 250,000 with (ii) a nitrogen-containing compound selected from polyalkylene amines, hydroxyalkyl polyalkylene amines and polyalkylene imines. Exemplified nitrogen compounds include pentaethylene hexamine, hydroxyethyl diethylene triamine and polyethylene imine. In Examples, such an additive is added to two different lubricant formulations as follows: (1) mineral lube oil, methylene-bis-(2,6-di-t-butylphenol), zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate, and overbased calcium petroleum sulphonate; and (2) mineral lube oil, dimethylsilicone anti-foaming agent, zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate, a mixed polymethacrylate, isooctylphenoxytetraethoxyethanol, basic calcium alkyl salicylate, zinc-bis (octylphenyl)-thionothiophosphate, calcium sulphonates and the polyisobutenyl succinimide of tetraethylenepentamine.
