Abstract

1,130,455. Lubricant. STANDARD OIL CO. 24 May, 1966 [1 June, 1965], No. 23032/66. Heading C5F. A lubricant composition comprises a mineral oil and a mixture of an exactly neutralized calcium salt of a N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-(alkenyl-substituted hydroxybenzyl)-alkylene diamine and a bis- (alkenyl-substituted succinimide) of a polyalkylene polyamine or of a condensation product of two moles of the polyalkylene polyamine with one mole urea. The calcium salt has the formula where "alkylene" may be a divalent C 2 to C 10 open-chain hydrocarbon and R is C 5 -C 70 alkyl group. The polyalkylene polyamine has the formula H 2 N-(alkylene-NH) x H where "alkylene" is a divalent open-chain C 2 -C 10 hydrocarbon which may be branched and x is from 2 to 10. The bis-(alkenyl-substituted succinimide) may be present in amount 0À2-0À4 moles per gram atom of Ca of said exactly neutralized calcium salt. The bis-succinimide may be modified with 0À5-0À7 wt. per cent of boron. Preferred components are the exactly neutralized Ca salt of N,N<SP>1</SP>-bis-(nonyl hydroxybenzyl)-ethylene diamine and the bis-(polybutenyl-substituted succinimide) of tetraethylene pentamine where the polybutenyl succinic anhydride moiety has a M.W. of about 960. The composition may also contain 0À2 to 1À0 wt. per cent of an oil-soluble calcium salt of a C 12 - C 30 alkyl benzene sulphonic acid.
