Abstract

1287386 Rotary distributors GENERAL MOTORS CORP 13 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 14675/71 Heading H1N A unitary assembly of an ignition coil 8, Fig. 1, and rotary distributor 60, 61 comprises a housing 10 for the coil 8 mounted directly on resilient insulating member 20 carrying a ring of distributor terminal spark contacts, as 21, 24, and their associated insulating conductors, as 32, 36 sealed within the member 20 in a plane at right angles to the distributor axis, the contacts 21, 24 extending through the top of the distributor casing 40, 41 into operative relationship with the arm 61 on the distributor rotor 60. The housing 10 may be clipped at edge 14 on a ring 12 and the joint potted with polyurethane through apertures 15. Bolts (48), Fig. 4 (not shown), engaging threaded inserts (50) in the cap 41 are inserted through flange 11 of the housing 10 and through member 20 to form a unitary assembly. The interrupter device 72 comprises a semi-conductor circuit controlled by voltage pulses and is connected to the primary circuit of coil 8 through flexible leads 71 and terminal 70. The secondary circuit of the coil 8 is connected to the rotary distributor arm 61 through a spring pressed central terminal 66. A centrifugal advance and retard device 73 is provided on the drive shaft 62 for coupling to the rotor 60.
