Abstract
1287369 Gas cooling apparatus INGERSOLLRAND CO 5 Oct 1970 [9 March 1970] 47225/70 Heading F4S A gas cooler 10 comprises a housing 12 within which is removably disposed a unitized heat exchange core 14 comprising a plurality of tubes 18 extending between tube end plates 20 and 22. End caps or covers 24, 26 provided with partitions 60 are fixed to the tube plates to constrain liquid coolant, e.g. water, to follow a multipass path through the core between an inlet port 34 and an outlet port 36. Gas to be cooled enters the cooler through an inlet plenum 38. Cooled gas after passing through the core leaves by way of an outlet plenum 40 which is provided with a transverse web 42 for separating out and preventing condensate from leaving with the cooled gas stream through outlet 44. The heat exchange core is insertable into the housing 12 as a unit and is supported therein by means of bolts 48 secured to a peripheral flange 46 on the housing. Packing 56 is located between the inner end of the unit and the wall 54 of the housing. Condensate may be removed from time to time through a sealed port in portion 58 of the outlet plenum 40. The cooler may be used in association with a gas compressor.
