Abstract

1286818 Pipe couplings PLASTIERS Ltd 4 Dec 1969 [9 Dec 1968] 58335/68 Heading F2G An adapter 1, e.g. for connecting a soil pipe to an underground drainage fitting 16, has at least one external projection extending partly around it at one end, and a socket 5 at the other end containing a resilient seal 6 with an internal sealing surface. The seal 6 is held in position by a ring 8 with a continuous lip 10 or lip segments interlocking with a flange 11 or flange segments integral with the adapter 1. The internal sealing surface comprises axially spaced ribs 7 which contact the outer surface of a pipe inserted within the adapter 1, the outermost ribs 21 acting as a wiper to remove dirt &c. The adapter is stepped at 4, 15 to provide a seating for the inserted pipe, the step being conical or radial. The adapter is seated in a bell mouth 17 of the drainage fitting 16 and is then bonded by cement grout or gaskin yarn and hot lead; the adapter has circumferentially spaced projections in the form of axial ribs 14, keying the adapter in the bonding medium; also axially spaced circumferential ribs 13, or bosses, or grooves, are provided. The adapter may be of P.V.C.
