Abstract

1286481 Bearings SAAB-SCANIA AB 25 Aug 1969 [28 Aug 1968] 42246/69 Heading F2A [Also in Divisions G1-G2] A spiral reader has a rotatable mirror 30 arranged to describe a cone and a periscope 22 mounted within the mirror support 21 for rotation therewith and movable relative to the support along the support axis, the periscope mounting comprising pairs of first 44<SP>II</SP> and second 44<SP>I</SP> guide members. The first guide members are yieldably mounted with respect to the support 21 whereas the second guide members are rigidly mounted. The guide member 44<SP>II</SP>, 44<SP>I</SP> of a respective pair bear in opposed directions on respective axially extending guide surfaces 43<SP>II</SP>, 43<SP>I</SP> on the periscope, the line of action of each guide member being offset from the axis. The guide members of a respective pair oppositely face one another, and their respective guide surfaces are parallel. The guide members 44<SP>II</SP>, 44<SP>I</SP> comprise rollers 45 mounted on shafts lying in a plane perpendicular to the rotation axis. The members 44<SP>II</SP> have an upwardly extending tongue 47<SP>II</SP> attached to support 21 by bolts 51 and tightened to the periscope by screws 52. This allows for adjustment of the bearing load of the member on its respective guide surface. The members 44<SP>I</SP> have adjusting screws 49 which have a conical guide surface 53 engaging along a portion of the cylindrical surface of an aperture 54 to adjust the position of the member toward or away from its respective surface.
