Abstract

1285907 Air cushion vehicle W R BERTELSEN 28 Nov 1969 [29 Nov 1968] 58277/69 Heading B7K An air cushion vehicle comprises a platform 20 being mounted thereon gimbal means 30 and 32 including flow directing means for directing air from power means either to a lift air chamber bonded by flexible skirt 24 beneath the platform to provide lift, or above the platform to provide propulsion. The air is provided by axial flow fans 26 and 28 mounted in flow-directing shrouds 34 and 36 carried by the gimbals. If joystick 110 is moved (as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 74) the shrouds are tilted so as to provide either forward propulsion or rearward propulsion or braking. Turning of wheel 152 clockwise causes tilting of the front fan in the same sense, tending to turn the vehicle to the right, simultaneous depression of pedal 172 turns the rear fan similarily, tending to move the vehicle laterally to the right, while depression of pedal 184 tilts the rear fan in the opposite direction, and the vehicle turns clockwise (as viewed from above) about its yaw axis.
