Abstract

1285822 Centrifugal compressors CARRIER CORP 10 June 1970 [9 Dec 1969] 28142/70 Heading F1C A compressor comprises an outlet end shell 12 fixed, as by welding, to one end of a cylindrical impeller assembly housing 50, 51, and having a cylindrical flange 17 merging with an inwardly curved portion 20 terminating in an opening, a support sleeve 23 for a bearing assembly 25 being fixed, as by welding, in the opening to form the inner boundary of a volute passage. A spiral plate 30 is fixed, as by welding 31, to the sleeve 23, supporting webs 33-38 being fixed to the plate and sleeve, as by welding. A partition plate 43 extending substantially tangentially from the sleeve 23 to the cylindrical flange 17 is fixed by welding. A discharge conduit 14 is welded to the shell 12 and the housing half 51 around an opening 44 which is formed partly in the cylindrical flange 17 and partly in the half 51. An inclined baffle plate 45 is provided at the beginning of the volute passage and an annular member 40 is provided between the final impeller 41 and the volute passage.
