Abstract

1285232 Finishing yarns ENGLISH SEWING Ltd 19 April 1971 [7 Feb 1970] 5977/70 Headings D1F and D1W A textured, looped yarn is made by continuously untwisting a torque-free, e.g. heatset or stabilised, continuous multifilament, thermoplastics, e.g. nylon, polyester, cellulose acetate or triacetate, yarn by means of a falsetwist spindle and overfeeding (by 3-30%) the yarn, i.e. allowing it to contract to less than its original length, in the "false-untwisted" state sufficiently to cause the filaments to form loops. Textured yarn may be plied, intertwisted and heat-set to produce sewing thread. Apparatus described comprises a modified false-twister equipped with feed rollers (the diameter of which may not exceed one inch) disposed adjacent to the false-twist spindle which is rotated in a direction opposite to the twist in the initial yarn, and the take-up rollers are coupled to the feed rollers so as to be rotated at a slightly lower peripheral speed than these rollers.
