Abstract

1284736 Boots etc GKN GROUP SERVICES Ltd 28 July 1970 [1 May 1969] 22210/ 69 Heading A3B An article of footwear, e.g. safety or protective footwear, has the front portion of the toe space 12 substantially filled by a block 21 of polymeric material whose external surface 22 is shaped to conform with the internal surface 23 of the shoe and whose rear surface is genarally inclined to the longitudinal axis of the shoe in a direction similar to a tangent line to the extremities of the larger toes of the wearer, the block 21 being arranged to take loads dropped upon the foot substantially wholly in compression. The block 21 may be provided with a flange 27a which covers the extremities of the larger toes. Suitable materials for the block 21 are polycarbonates, ABS copolymers and polypropylene and the block may be reinforced with a metal plate 31 on its upper surface. The block 21 may be formed by injection moulding and may be formed integrally with the sole assembly 10.
