Abstract

1284733 Lidded containers MARDON ILLINGWORTH Ltd 6 March 1970 [2 April 1969 8 July 1969] 17268/69 and 34254/69 Heading A4A A container 10 for individual portions of commodities such as butter has a segmental e.g. semi-circular cross-section with a lid 20 pivoted about its axis. The edges of the lid are in close proximity to the body portion 11 of the container such that rotation of the lid scoops out the contents depositing the same on the lid's undersurface. A handle 23 is provided on the lid which in the closed position clips removably into the tapered slot 14, see Fig. 6 (not shown). In the open position the handle clips irremovably into another tapered slot 15, see Fig. 8 (not shown). Alternatively an internal detent may be provided to engage the lid and hence prevent reclosure. Pivotability is effected by integral spigots 22 on the lid engaging holes 13 in the container. Co-operating chamfers are provided on the spigots and container edge to ease assembly, see Fig. 7 (not shown). The lid may have an upstanding edge 21, which in the case of large containers would conform to the vessel's interior contours, to reduce leakage of the contents past the lid. The vessel stands on a support wall 12. Suitable shapes for the vessel body are e.g. hemispherical or semi-cylindrical. The lids may be externally recessed to allow stacking, see Fig. 4 (not shown). The container may be used for any commodity of suitable viscidity or may alternatively contain solid material in the form of a block mounted on the underside of the lid. The non recloseability feature could be omitted for reuseable items. The container may be made from e.g. polypropylene or high impact polystyrene.
