Abstract

1284657 Zinc IMPERIAL SMELTING CROP (NSC) Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970] 13809/70 Heading C7D Zinc is produced by reducing materials containing Zn and Cd with carbon in a blast furnace; dividing the gases leaving the furnace into two streams, each of which is condensed in molten lead in a condensor; passing the solution leaving the first condensor into a vacuum vessel while still at the temperature at which it leaves the condensor; cooling at least part of the lead from the second condensor to separate dissolved zinc and returning the lead to the condensor; withdrawing any remainder of the lead from the second condensor and, while still substantially at the temperature at which it left the condensor, passing it. through the vacuum vessel; distilling Zn and Cd from the vessel; cooling the Pb leaving the vessel to slightly above the M. P. of Zn without ppting Zn and returning the Pb to the condensors.
