Abstract
The invention relates to a method for eliminating and recovering zinc contained in compacted galvanized scrap, which is normally used as raw material for melting in foundries and steel works, wherein zinc is evaporated and separated from iron by heating it at a temperature that is lower than that of normal vaporization temperature of zinc (906 DEG C) by means of induction and under vacuum (approximately 5 mbar). Condensation of vapors is then carried out to recover and economically recycle zinc in solid and highly pure state. Said method is carried out before the galvanized scrap is included in the melting process with the aim of avoiding treatment of the powders collected from the smokes after the melting process, as has been done traditionally, and to prevent toxic gases from being released to the outside.
