Abstract

1284570 Manually-operated pumps AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO Ltd 1 Oct 1970 [5 Nov 1969] 54229/69 Heading F1A A manually operated pump for supplying fluid at a lower pressure at a relatively large rate and for supplying fluid at a higher pressure at a reduced rate, comprises a body 10 defining a cylinder 11 in which reciprocates a plunger 13 having a hollow stem 12. This stem 12 defines a further cylinder 17 in which a plunger 16, having a stem 15 integral with body 10, reciprocates. By moving bell-crank lever 26 the plungers 13, 16 move relative to the cylinders 11, 17. If plunger 13 moves to the right, fluid is drawn into chambers 19 and 22 from inlet 31, and fluid is dispelled from chambers 21, 23 via passages 37, 39 to outlet 32. If plunger 13 moves to the left, fluid flows from chambers 19, 22 into chambers 21, 23 through non-return valves 46, 47, but since chambers 21, 23 have a smaller crosssection than chambers 19, 22 fluid is still dispelled to outlet 32. At a predetermined pressure, control valve 42 is acted upon via passage 39 to open communication between passage 41 connected to chamber 21 and inlet 31. Thus the larger cylinder and plunger 11, 13 does not pump fluid to outlet 32 and fluid at a higher pressure is supplied at a reduced rate from cylinder 17.
