1284566 Boxes and trays INITIAL PLASTICS Ltd 19 Nov 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 43174/69 Heading B8P A container in the form of a box and a lid, Fig. 1, or a tray, Fig. 3, including a base and side walls has its side walls provided with abutment surfaces so arranged that when the box or tray is fitted in a telescopic manner into the lid or an identical tray respectively, the distance the box or tray extends into the lid or identical tray respectively is different in at least three relative angular orientations between the box and the lid or the two trays. In the box and lid embodiment projections 2, 3 provide abutment surfaces on the box and the bottoms and steps of stepped slots 6, 7, 8 and 9 or grooves (not shown) provide mating abutment surfaces on the lid, or vice versa. In the embodiment illustrated the lid top panel 5 has four possible alternative spacings from the box base 1 (Figs. 2a-2d). The box and lid may have an equilateral triangular, a square, or a regular pentagonal shape in plan. In the embodiment comprising the plastics tray, which is vacuum moulded, the abutment surfaces are provided by the shelves of stepped recesses and corresponding projections 11 and 12 and recesses and corresponding projections 13 and 14 formed in the side walls of the tray.
