1284175 Rimming steel NIPPON KOKAN K K 29 April 1970 20723/70 Heading C7D Rimming steel to be continuously cast is blown with inert gas, and its carbon: oxygen ratio brought into the range defined in Fig. 5 by addition either of an oxident such as millscale, or of aluminium wire of diameter exceeding 3 mm., which is fed at a rate exceeding 2À5 metres/sec. The preferred gas is argon. Aluminium wire 5 may be supplied through guide 7 by motor 6 from reel 4, while the gas is introduced through a porous block in the base of the ladle. Alternatively the gas may be blown in through a tube 11 closed by porous plug 3.
