Abstract
128,396. Davis, G. K. June 19, 1918. Acids, concentrating; spray evaporators; progressive evaporators.-Sulphuric acid in the form of spray is brought into contact with furnace gases in a succession of chambers, the acid passing through the chambers in series and the gases in parallel. The spray is produced by rotating fanners f, similar to those described in Specification 2113/09, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], and the chambers are so shaped as to be entirely filled by the cloud of spray. The gases from the furnace A and combustion chamber B pass through the concentrating chambers C, D, E to a flue c leading to a scrubber F. The acid passes through a heat-interchanger H, where it is heated by the concentrated acid previously treated, and through an economizer K in the flue c to the chamber C, whence it passes by the pipe 5, 6 to the chamber D, and thence to the chamber E and the economizer H.
