Abstract

128,369. Bayliss, B. H. June 15, 1918. Saddles. - A spring suspension for cycle saddles, motor-vehicle bodies, &c., has one part of the spring connected to one portion and the other part connected through a flexible connexion to a cam on a pivoted lever, the cam being so formed that its leverage on the pivot is reduced as the spring comes into action. Fig. 1 shows a side view of a cycle saddle in which the saddle n is supported by a pair of crossed levers l, u on either side. The lower end of the lever u forms an abutment for the spring s, the other end of which is connected by rod c and chain c<1> with a cam on the lower portion of lever l. Instead of using crossed levers the saddle may be supported on a parallelogrammic arrangement of levers, the cam being on the end of one of the horizontal levers. The Provisional Specification refers to the lever having its spring attachment end being set at about an angle of forty-five degrees to the main arm instead of being cam-shaped.
