Abstract

1283595 Supersensitized photographic silver halide emulsions FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 3 Dec 1969 [4 Dec 19681 59025/69 Heading G2C Photographic silver halide emulsions are supersensitized by a combination of i) a sensitizing dye of the formula:- wherein 2<SP>1</SP> completes a 4-quinoline nucleus, 2<SP>2</SP> completes a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, X is an anion, m is 1 or 2 and p is 1 or 2, p being 1 when the dye forms an internal salt, and ii) a condensate of formaldehyde and a hydroxybenzene formed under acid conditions. The hydroxybenzene having one of the formulae:- where R 3 and R 4 are each OH, OM, OR<SP>6</SP>, NH 2 , N(R<SP>6</SP>) 2 , NHNH 2 , NHR<SP>6</SP> or NHNHR<SP>6</SP>, R<SP>6</SP> being alkyl of 1-8C, aryl or aralkyl, R<SP>5</SP> is -OH or halogen, and n and n<SP>1</SP> are each 1, 2 or 3 and M is alkali metal or alkaline earth metal. The emulsions of Specification 1210009 are disclaimed.
