Abstract

1283078 Pile fabrics I W S NOMINEE CO Ltd 1 Aug 1969 [5 Aug 1968] 38771/69 Heading D1K Pile fabrics are made from animal skins or other pile fabrics by severing fibres from the skin or fabric, bringing the fibres into contact with a preformed softened thermoplastic film and pressing the fibres and film together with a pressure of from 10 to 500 p.s.i. to embed the fibres in the film. In Figure 1 a knitted pile fabric I with a woolen pile is passed under a roller 2 and suction box 3, the pile is severed by a bandknife 4 and deposited upon a conveyor 6 which transports under a thermoplastic film 7 into which they are pressed by heated nip rolls 9. The film 7 may have a backing 10 applied to it as shown in Fig. 3. In Figure 5 the pile from woollen skins 11 is severed and deposited onto a conveyor 12 which is driven at such a speed as to consolidate the fibres and to deposite them onto the thermoplastic film 7. Patterned pile fabric may be produced by overlaying the thermoplastic film with a perforated or non-woven sheet or an open woven or knitted fabric so that not all of the fibres are bonded to the thermoplastic film. Details of thermoplastic films are given.
