Abstract
1283073 Cooling chocolate-coated articles G. MEAGHER 8 April 1970 [22 May 1969] 26050/69 Heading F4H Chocolate coated articles are cooled in the main part of a cooling tunnel by contact with air streams of progressively decreasing temperature and increasing velocity. In the remainder of the tunnel, the temperature of the articles is adjusted so that when they leave the tunnel their skin temperature is not below the dew point of the ambient atmosphere. As illustrated, articles are conveyed from left to right through a funnel, the main part of which comprises sections B<SP>1</SP> to B<SP>7</SP> supported by adjustable legs C. Air is cooled by refrigerating coils F and passed by fans G through a damper controlled opening J to the space above the conveyer and below a baffle D. The opening J is controlled by a damper I under the influence of a temperature controller H. Portions of the air stream flowing over the conveyer towards the tunner entrance are withdrawn through openings M having adjustable dampers L. The withdrawn air returns, above the baffle D, to the refrigerating coils F. A final part of the tunnel is formed of sections 0<SP>1</SP>, 0<SP>2</SP> and 0<SP>3</SP> in which the articles and the air stream over the conveyer move in the same direction. The sections 0<SP>1</SP>, 0<SP>2</SP> and 0<SP>3</SP> contain components similar to those contained in the sections B<SP>1</SP> to B<SP>7</SP>, but in addition, the section 0<SP>2</SP> includes a heater for use in regulating the air temperature in the final part of the tunnel so that the chocolate temperature rises to at least the dew point of the ambient atmosphere.
