Abstract

1282624 Preventing coastal erosion FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 30 July 1969 [30 July 1968] 38281/69 Heading EIH A mattress for protecting coastal ground from erosion comprises an outer bag made of loosely woven strips of a thermoplastics material and strips 1, 3 of tightly woven thermoplastics material secured to the outer side of the bag so as to form elongate cavities 2, which are filled with inner bags (not shown) made of loosely woven strips of a thermoplastics material and stuffed with entangled strips of a thermoplastics material. The mattress can be secured to the ground by pegs passed through eyelets 4. The thermoplastics materials may be low pressure polyolefins, preferably low pressure polyethylene, copolymers of ethylene and propylene, or polypropylene, which may contain a light stabilizer such as soot. The mattress may be loaded with stones or sand lodged in pockets at the corners and/or spread over its surface. Alternatively, the inner bags are secured by stitching the outer bag in a quilt-like manner, Fig. 3 (not shown).
