Abstract
1282552 Portable cleaning appliance J SZILARD 5 Sept 1969 [6 June 1968] 26916/68 Heading A4F [Also in Division C7] A portable ultrasonic cleaning appliance comprises an ultrasonic transducer 1 and a housing 2, the housing defining an opening which allows communication between a liquid filling the housing and a surface 4 to which the housing is applied and being so dimensioned that it spaces an operative energy-dissipating face of the transducer from the surface by a distance such that under constant operating conditions the liquid is maintained substantially in resonance while the transducer is operative so that ultrasonic energy generated by the transducer is transmitted through said liquid to said surface. To enable the spacing between transducer and opening to be adjusted to permit the liquid to be set to reconance, the housing may comprise telescopically adjustable cylindrical members 2, 3. A cleaning fluid inlet 5 opens at the vibrating face of the transducer; spent cleaning fluid escapes via the opening into annular channel 7 and outlet pipe 8. A pair of concentric annular channels 10 is provided for rinsing the surface, and has an inlet 11 and an outlet 12. Elastic seals 9, 13 prevent the escape of the respective cleaning and rinsing fluids. An air outlet (not shown) is provided for escape of air at the commencement of use of the apparatus.
