Abstract

1282144 Roof covering units A E GAUNTLETT 25 March 1970 [21 May 1969] 25959/69 Heading E1B A roofing panel comprises an upper skin 1 shaped to simulate a plurality of tiles, upper and lower walls 4, 5 with inturned flances 4A, 5A and a filling in which projecting ties 7 are embedded, the ties 7 being secured to pins 12 projecting from rafters 10 by further ties 11. Projecting tongues 6 having ribs 6A to prevent moisture penetration are formed integral with the outer skin which is made of asbestos, synthetic plastics with or without glass fibre reinforcement. The filling may be concrete, foamed concrete or polyurethane, mineral wool or glass fibre. In a modification the element has a lower moulded face extending between the flanges 4A and 5A and in this case the insulating medium can be air. Modified form of ties for securing the elements to roofs and various ridge capping elements and modified roofing elements are disclosed. The side edges of the elements have complementary rabets defining gutters extending down the slope of the roof. Counterbattens may be embedded in the filling and the elements secured to the roof by nails passing through roof battens into the counterbattens. Inverted V section upstanding guttering walls may be fixed on top of roof structure incorporating the elements to direct rain water towards a down pipe in torrential condition.
