Abstract

1282100 Folding sheets TIMSONS Ltd 28 Oct 1969 [16 Oct 1968] 49056/68 Heading B8R Apparatus for folding paper comprises an arrangement of endless belts 1, 2, 3 for conveying the paper, e.g. a web or a sheet S, through the apparatus in the direction of arrow A; a tool such as a fixed, pivoted or reciprocating blade, or, as shown, a rotating disc 6 for indenting the paper; and a pair of nip rollers 8 which cooperate with the tool 6 to form a fold-line in the already indented sheet. As illustrated, the sheet S passes from the rollers 8 on to a support plate 7 and is drawn along the upper edge 7a of the plate by an additional pair of nip rollers 8 which feed the sheet to a further endless conveyer 12. - The sheet S, leaving the plate 7 in a vertical plane, is turned through 90 degrees by the conveyer 12 and is delivered therefrom in a horizontal plane to a collecting station. In a second embodiment the apparatus includes a pair of curved guide rails (15), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), and is arranged so that the sheets are folded with a downwardly directed spine.
